Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee represents the interests of members. It consists of seven members, each of whom represents a day of the week, plus a chairman. So, for example, one member of the Advisory Committee represents all members with shares in the Company entitling them to fish on Mondays. That member will be a Monday fisherman himself. And so on for the other days of the week.

Retiring members of the Committee are replaced by another member from the same day of the week. A member who is interested in joining the Committee should make this known to his day representative or the Committee chairman. The fishery manager will generally consult members of the day represented by a retiring member of the Committee, to find out who they would like as their new representative.

The Committee elects a chairman, normally from amongst its own membership, who is then replaced by another day representative for the relevant day. The chairman is responsible for day-to-day liaison with the fishery manager on the running of the fishery.

The Committee normally meets twice each year and makes routine operating decisions about the running of the fishery with the fishery manager. It also approves the annual budget for the fishery, from which the annual maintenance charge to members is derived. The maintenance charge falls due on 1st February annually. Day representatives may invite their members to contribute topics, concerns or ideas for the Committee’s consideration. In addition, the Committee organises an annual meeting (the Syndicate AGM) in October or November each year to which all members are invited. The Syndicate AGM approves the annual budget and maintenance charge. It also makes decisions about the forthcoming season and gives members the opportunity to raise and debate matters of concern to them. Voting on the Committee is by majority, but the Committee generally operates by consensus.
