Health and safety

Observance of a few simple guidelines on health and safety will reduce the chances of accidents and spoiled fishing.

  • It is advisable to wear a life jacket when near water. There are many different types of jacket on the market which will inflate when in contact with water or when operated by pulling a cord. The life jacket MUST be able to turn the wearer onto their back when inflated. REMEMBER: "You do not drown by falling into water, you drown by staying there." Edwin Louis Cole.

  • Always wear a pair of glasses when fishing to protect your eyes, and in bright weather wear sunscreen to protect your skin.

  • Always take care when on the river bank, particularly if you are on your own.

  • Familiarise yourself with the location of the first aid box in the fishing hut; perhaps carry your own first aid kit with you.

  • Do not wade or swim in the water - or drink it !
