Local places to stay, eat and visit

Places to eat

  • Dukes Head: 5 minute drive from the fishery towards Romsey; good food produced in about 10 minutes, well worth a visit.
  • Bear and Ragged Staff: 5 minute drive from the fishery towards Stockbridge; Whitbread "Wayside Inn"; the food is fine and served all day.

Places to visit

  • Romsey: 10 minute drive; Romsey Abbey, Broadlands (home of Lords Palmerston and Mountbatten).
  • Winchester: 20 minute drive; Cathedral, King Arthur’s Round Table, Military Museums, City Mill (National Trust), Winchester College.
  • Southampton: 30 minute drive; large shopping centre, marina village, medieval museum with herb garden, Hall of Aviation museum.
  • Mottisfont: 10 minute drive; National Trust Abbey and world renowned rose gardens, at their best in June but attractive at any time.
  • Bath: Travel by train on Britain’s first privatised railway from Romsey (one hour). See Timsbury from the train and other views of the Test and the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal on your way to this World Heritage City.
